Based in San José, Costa Rica
Hi, I'm Jose Pablo.
I build and operate cloud-native, self-service platforms across AWS, Azure, GCP, and OCI — serving 10,000+ customers and 1,000+ internal apps. I care about developer experience, observability, and secure-by-default systems.
01 / About
A bit about me
I'm a Software Platform & Backend Engineer with 5+ years building and operating cloud-native, self-service platforms across AWS, Azure, GCP, and OCI — systems that have served 10,000+ customers and 1,000+ internal applications.
At Sysdig I build cloud-native microservices on Kubernetes — resilient inter-service communication over REST, gRPC, and NATS in event-driven architectures — programming in Go and Python with SOLID design and GitOps/CI/CD delivery. Before that, at Cargill, I helped build an internal developer platform that let 1,000+ applications deploy themselves on automated cloud infrastructure.
I own incident response end to end (triage → root-cause analysis), instrument systems with Datadog, Prometheus, and Grafana, and lead cross-team initiatives with a product mindset focused on developer experience and secure-by-default patterns.

02 / Skills
What I work with
The stack I use to design, ship, and operate platforms — grouped by where it lives in the system.
~/tech
Backend & Languages
Resilient, well-tested services with clean APIs and event-driven communication.
Cloud & Platform
Self-service platforms and infrastructure-as-code across four major clouds.
DevOps & Observability
Delivery pipelines, monitoring, and incident response that keep systems healthy.
03 / Experience & Projects
What I've built
Cloud-native platforms I've shipped at work, plus personal projects on the side.
UCR PAA Web Application
A web app helping high-school students prepare for the University of Costa Rica PAA admissions test, built on the MERN stack.
04 / Currently Learning
What I'm growing into
Always leveling up. Here's what I'm digging into right now.
System Design
Designing for scale, resilience, and clean trade-offs — the backbone of great platforms.
Rust
Memory-safe systems programming for high-performance platform and infrastructure tooling.
Observability & Monitoring
Going deeper on metrics, tracing, and SLOs to detect and resolve issues before users feel them.
In-depth Cloud Services
Mastering advanced AWS, Azure, GCP & OCI services — networking, security, and cost — to build better cloud-native systems.
05 / Timezone Advantage
Working hours that line up with the US
Costa Rica runs on Central Time (UTC−6) year-round — no daylight saving — so my day overlaps cleanly with US teams for real-time collaboration.
